I am flying to The Big Island in a week to race Hawaii 70.3. I have not been back since the World Championships in 2008. I am very much looking forward to returning and also racing on some of the Ironman course. I did this race back in 2007 and had a blast. Did not even wear a watch the whole day, just had fun with it. I’m returning to the island with a little more experience under my belt and the added structure of a training plan and coach that I have been working with for the past 6 months.
My dad used to box, yea he’s done everything. He used his giant endurance base and mixed in shadowboxing, jumping rope, hit the heavy bags, worked on timing and quickness with hand bags and training pads, you know, all the Rocky stuff minus chasing the chicken and punching meat. He put in all the time and effort with no intentions of “fighting”. But you get to a point where you train your body and mind and you have to respond. He said his arms were ready to explode… trained to the point of needing to test all the training. I feel that way now. I need to race. I’ve put in the time and I want to perform. I don’t understand swimming, biking and running just to stay in shape and fit in my jeans. I have a goal, a purpose, and more importantly, a deadline- my race date.
So my dad did fight, just once, and knocked the guy out! TKO baby! That was all he needed and never boxed again. I am hoping to have the same fire come race morning. Stay tuned…

Michele – you will be awesome next week. You are a tuned machine. Nice work and discipline with your training. No doubt your performance will reflect your hard work. Have fun out there.
